CAMARO GT ONLY BRIEFLY MISSED TOP-20

September 19th, 2012

The ADAC GT Masters enters its final stage of the 2012 season. Last weekend, YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer took part in the penultimate round of the season at the Nürburgring. Philip Geipel and Max Sandritter, who shard the sole Chevrolet Camaro GT at the second appearance of the highly competitive series at the Nürburgring, only briefly missed the goal to finish within the Top-20. In both races, the Camaro GT finished 22nd.

Geipel and Sandritter experienced two almost flawless races at the Nürburgring. The Camaro GT run absolutely trouble free in both races. Only one spin in the first half of Saturday’s race cost three places. Start position and results were identical in both races: From start position 29th in both Sunday’s and Saturday’s races, Sandritter and Geipel saw the chequered flag in 22nd position.

“It would have been great to finish both races within the top-20 here, but unfortunately the car was sometimes during the race a bit inconstant“, YACO Racing team boss Uwe Geipel said after the two races. “Speedwise, we reached in the meantime the maximum, we can get out of the car. Since the season started, we put a lot of development into the car and can race in the meantime within the midfield of the ADAC GT Masters. For further improvements of the Camaro, the development company Sareni United, which built the car, is now required to make the car faster. The car still has the potential, but further updates are now in the range of homologated parts and updates can only be done by Sareni.”

After a promising race at the Lausitzring and a most recent development test of Sareni, Philip Geipel also hoped for a further uptrend at the Nürburgring. “Unfortunately this didn’t happen. We are fast here on the straights, but in every corner, we loose so much time. I’m at the maximum and didn’t made any mistake but we can’t get more out of the car. Nevertheless, in the second race we almost reached our goal and were 20th, before we unfortunately lost two positions in the final laps of the race.”

The final race weekend of the ADAC GT Masters will take place from 28th to 30th September at the Hockenheimring. After entering a single Chevrolet Camaro GT in the most recent two rounds, YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer plans to finish the season with it’s pair of Camaro GT.
